Janet Nelson was born in Glasgow and raised on the East Coast of Scotland. After studying at the Leith School of Art, she lived and worked in Leicestershire before returning to Scotland to pursue her career as a professional artist since 2008.

Her passion for sailing (she was a member of a Hunter Formula One racing crew on Rutland Water) is clearly evident in her vibrant, semi-abstract seascapes, which are much sought after by collectors around the world.

Her distinctive use of colour and texture is also applied to a wider variety of subjects, typically taken from the world of nature.

Working from her studio in East Neuk, Jan travels widely to find new inspiration and to exhibit her work.
